Yearly Event for Anti-violence Group Honoring Firefighters Saturday

PEORIA (25News Now) - The ‘Don’t Start at the Park IV: Super Hero Edition’ will honor firefighters this year at the Riverplex in Peoria.
The ‘Don’t Start Initiative’ founders, Joe Couri and Warith Muhammad, said positive mentorship is crucial for students, along with positive music.
The yearly event will have basketball, ping pong, motivational speakers, and live music from founders Muhammad and Couri performing their original song, “Don’t Start.”
“Firefighters are loved by everyone,” said Muhammad. “Some people have mixed feelings about the police, but we didn’t care about that. The police put their lives on the line every day, and firefighters run into fires risking their lives.”
The event is meant for grade school kids, but the public is welcome.
The event is from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Riverplex, which is at 600 Northeast Water Street, along the riverfront.
